qsv transcoding options - Verme - 2025-10-09

2nd question of the day Smiling-face ... new to Jellyfin as a daily driver, I've been testing it in parallel with Plex for a while. I have qsv (i5-14600k) enabled for hw transcoding however I'm not sure if any of the default settings should be changed on the transcoding option page. I am kind of assuming you want to hw transcode everything unless it works direct play. I checked and I don't see a guide specific to this question, thanks a ton.

H264, HEVC, AV1, MPEG-2 should be supported.

Do you have intel-media-va-driver-non-free installed?

Would this be intel gpu top plugin for unraid? If yes.. I do, and have passed thru /dev/dri/ to /dev/dri/. If not ... can you be more specific on this driver? I have verified hw encoding is active as well (attached), thanks.

Jellyfin already includes a complete Intel media driver, so there's no need to manually install additional packages.

You can enable all unchecked hardware decoders. The low-power encoders should also work. The HEVC encoder can also be enabled.

OpenCL tonemap will provide better quality than VPP tonemap.
