Casting from either Macbook or iPhone to TV - thenoob - 2025-10-11

I have jellyfin set up on my macbook air.
I have jellyfin set up on my iphone via both the jellyfin app, and the swiftfin app.
I have jellyfin set up on my TV via Apple TV 4K box with INFUSE and Swiftfin.

I really don't like the INFUSE app navigation. No list mode makes it difficult to see full titles of files etc, I'm not a huge fan of thumbnails.  I also have about 50,000 video files...

So what I REALLY want to be able to do is use the CAST function either within my web browser on my macbook, or in the jellyfin app on my iphone.

1.  On my macbook, the CAST button only shows one option which is my macbook named "My Device" so that's entirely pointless.
2.  On my ihpne, the CAST button shows both "My Device" which in this case is the phone, and also "Chrome - Jellyfin Web" which is my Macbook.  I can succesfully use my iphone therefore as a remote control to play things on my laptop.

But...

why do neither options show my a way to CAST to my INFUSE or Switfin apps on my apple tv box???

Plex does cast to my TV but so many other issues I don't wanna use it.

I REALLY WANNA BROWSE VIA MY LAPTOP, CLICK A VID, AND SEE IT PLAY ON MY TV.  OMG WHY SO DIFFICULT.

Thanks!

I dont have any Apple devices, so im sorry for having to ask questions to deliver answers.

1. As i remember, you may need a subscibtion for INFUSE to be useful, do you have that or is it the free INFUSE?
2. After installing Jellyfin on your Apple TV, you have logged into a account on it?
- If, are other users then allowed to play to it? You can see on the Jellyfin server > Dashboard > users > select the user.

Is all devices connected to the same Wi-Fi or does some use cable?
What version of Jellyfin server are you runnung?

1. i am on premium version of infuse
2. you can directly connect the app on the tv to your jellyfin account and i have done that. i can see everything on my tv app that is in my jellyfin library.
i downloaded jellyfin from the website, i dont know what version of the server i am on or how to identify that
i am the only user. it is a solution for me only, so i can stream to my tv without using an external hd plugged into the tv instead.

Hmmm! Not really sure what the issue is? Why don't you just mirror your Macbook to the apple Tv? Browse on your Macbook & Mirror it to the Apple Tv or do the same with your phone, both are built into the macOS & iOS!

the issue is there is no cast function
screen mirroring is a workaround and i'm not sure the picture quality will translate perfectly

To get the result, you need a Jellyfin-compatible Apple TV app that supports live streaming. Alternatively, you can use AirPlay on your Mac or iPhone instead of the Jellyfin cast button.
