Is there a way to disable the required password for the admin account? - ivan - 2025-10-13

Hi,

I've been using Jellyfin for more than a year but the machine where it was installed is currently going through some hardware issues and so its down.

I installed Jellyfin on a different computer and everything is working fine with one exception: During setup, I've had to assign a password to my account (admin) and because of this, when I login it always asks for a password. I'm pretty sure on the previous server, the admin account didn't have a password.

It's not a big deal but I would prefer to leave it passwordless. I can't find any setting for this though. Is there a workaround?

Btw, I have created secondary user accounts and they don't have passwords.

Im not entirely sure, but i do remember that there has been a fix, so admin account must use a password.

You can make your browser or Jellyfin Meida Player remember the login details, but im pretty sure, it's a matter of security in general.

I would either not recommend not using a password, you may be able to use a pin code (quick connect) if that helps a bit.
