android tv client, roku or smart TV for 4k movies? - Mr.potat0head - 2025-10-15

I'm currently working on making library of 4k content on my new server/NAS but I don't have a TV yet and I've never bought one before so I'm wondering whether I should get a dumb TV with an external roku (or similar device) or get a TV with one built in. If I get an external device I have no which kind is best.

Sure! Here's a rewritten version that keeps the same tone and message, just cleaned up a bit for clarity and flow:
There really aren’t any dumb TVs these days, pretty much all of them come with some kind of smart OS built in. Personally, I prefer the Google TV platform. I would recommend trying out the TV’s built-in OS first, and if it is not up to par then use an external device. There are plenty of threads on the forum discussing the best device to buy.
