Missing ffmpeg after a bad update - CaspHop - 2023-10-16 I have been using Jellyfin on my trueNAS Core NAS system for a few months now. Last week I had some problems with the update. I think the update was interrupted during the process. After that I had no access to my server at all. So I went into the jail shell and did the update manually. Since then, the server seems to be up and running again. Now the problem is that I now get the messageĀ "This client isn't compatible with the media and the server isn't sending a compatible media format.". A look at the log file showed me that there is obviously a problem with ffmpeg. So I took a look at the playback settings and saw that the ffmpeg path was not set. I went back to the jail shell and tried to reinstall ffmpeg, but I'm not a pro at dealing with this stuff. What I could do is to update the whole package again (including ffmpeg). I think the path to ffmpeg should be "/usr/local/bin/ffmpeg" (that's what I get as a result when I type "where ffmpeg"). But when I try that, I get another error message that says "We're unable to find FFmpeg using the path you've entered. FFprobe is also required and must exist in the same folder. These components are normally bundled together in the same download. Please check the path and try again." I'm a little confused that "/usr/local/bin/ffmpeg" appears to be a file, not a folder, as far as I can tell. But as I mentioned, I'm no expert. I have attached my log file from today. My test setup was to open the same two files ("Paradeisen statt Apokalypsen.mkv" and "Persepolis.mkv") from three different devices . First, with my web browser (Vivaldi). Second, with my Android tablet app. Third, with my Android TV app. This first movie "Paradeisen statt Apokalypsen.mkv" never runs. The second movie "Persepolis.mkv" only runs on my TV App. I hope someone can help me with this problem. My current Jellyfin version is 10.8.10 Operating system: BSD RE: Missing ffmpeg after a bad update - CaspHop - 2023-10-19 Is there any information missing about my problem? The only idea I have right now is to uninstall Jellyfin from my server and reinstall it. I would like to avoid that, because it took me a lot of time to set up Jellyfin the way it is now. RE: Missing ffmpeg after a bad update - TheDreadPirate - 2023-10-19 You might have trouble finding help because TrueNAS CORE is not an officially supported platform. I'm assuming you are using some sort of community created Jellyfin image for TrueNAS Core. And that may not include ffmpeg. The official docker image has ffmpeg bundled and does not require additional configuration. What you COULD do is install ffmpeg directly in the host OS and then configure your jail to pass in the path to ffmpeg. Then set Jellyfin to use that path. RE: Missing ffmpeg after a bad update - Deleted User - 2023-10-19 perhaps you will have better luck finding a truenas core user that uses jellyfin - instead of a jellyfin user that uses truenas core? https://www.truenas.com/community RE: Missing ffmpeg after a bad update - Deleted User - 2023-10-21 To add a follow up on this for future users who find it. The user has continued this on the above recommended forum and a lot of good information has been relayed by TrueNAS users. I am not comfortable directly linking the conversation but it will be easy to locate on that forum for anyone else having similar issues. |
