10.11 .ignore files not working - trahajopro86 - 2025-10-24 After upgrading to 10.11, it seems like my .ignore files stopped working I have had the same file structure for the last several versions of Jellyfin: /Music/Artist/album I also have a a couple folders for other files that have .ignore files so they don't get added to the library Music/!comedy #comedy albums excluded because they are not music Music/!pre-sort #random music files that need metadata clean up, duplicate, and other misc files before the upgrade to 10.11 all the "!folders" were being excluded from the library, but now everything (all subfolders) from /Music are being added to the library. This is running the official container in docker under Unraid. Volume paths mapped directly to Unraid volume set to cache-only (running on btrfs SSD cache vol) RE: 10.11 .ignore files not working - BlackPlatypus - 2025-11-09 Same here. This is terrible! 😅 RE: 10.11 .ignore files not working - theguymadmax - 2025-11-10 (2025-10-24, 10:20 PM)trahajopro86 Wrote: After upgrading to 10.11, it seems like my .ignore files stopped working Do you have an actual .ignore file in the folder, or was Jellyfin ignoring folders beginning with an "!"? RE: 10.11 .ignore files not working - trahajopro86 - 2025-11-13 Quote: Do you have an actual .ignore file in the folder, or was Jellyfin ignoring folders beginning with an "!"? there are actual .ignore files in those folders. I also have .ignore files that are NOT in a !folder. for example /soundtracks/somemovie/.ignore and /z_trash/.ignore As I mentioned before, this was all working great before the migration to 10.11.x. I have been fighting a really messed up database since the upgrade (as well as other things likely since this Jellyfin instance has been around for a long time and gone through several upgrades), so as a test, I cloned the docker container and ONLY changed the appdata storage location and let it build everything fresh from scratch and the .ignore files are not working even with the fresh build. Hope that helps RE: 10.11 .ignore files not working - trahajopro86 - 2025-11-13 Update I did some more troubleshooting and I think I may have figured something out. It seems like the .ignore file encoding matters. I looked a handful of (previously working) .ignore files and they have not been modified in over a year, so I *think* they were unchanged. I'm not sure if text/plain worked in pre-10.11.x or if something else happened to my files. Anyway, initial tests seem to indicate it's working again after re-creating the ignore files. # Renamed old original .ignore file file -i .ignore.bak .ignore.bak: text/plain; charset=us-ascii # Recreated the file with 'touch .ignore' on host (Debian xfs) followed by a 'chmod 99:100' to set appropriate permissions (in my case) file -i .ignore .ignore: inode/x-empty; charset=binary RE: 10.11 .ignore files not working - trahajopro86 - 2025-11-15 Update #2 I found this: https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin.org/issues/1649 Quote:Basically, if the file is non-empty, it's now handled like a .gitignore pathspec file, permitting granular exclusions within the folder. So it looks like my previous guess was not correct even though it fixed the issue for me. My .ignore file DID contain notes, which caused them to stop working because of the changes made to how .ignore files work. RE: 10.11 .ignore files not working - theguymadmax - 2025-11-15 I was going to mention that to you. But you had already solved the issue. :-) |
