Playback issues Chromcast Google TV - theotherd - 2023-10-17

Running Windows 10 on;
  • HP Z840

  • single Xeon E5 2620 v3

  • 64gb DDR4

  • Geforce GTX 1650

I came back from a few days away and found that it wouldn't play an episode. I can navigate around the UI but when i press play nothing happens. Have attached logs, any ideas?

EDIT:
Release 0.15.12 of JellyFin
Appears to play after some time (30seconds) in extremely poor quality, ~360p.
Running server not in a docker (yet)

Do you use DLNA? If not, go ahead and disable it. Errors related to DLNA are cluttering your log.

Do you have any ffmpeg logs? I see mixed logs about the audio codec being unsupported, but then entries saying it direct played?

FFmpeg logs attached

RE: Playback issues Chromcast Google TV - Deleted User - 2023-10-17

that log confirms "Appears to play after some time (30seconds) in extremely poor quality, ~360p."

sounds like you set your client settings too low

log in to the web panel with that user, click the user icon up in the upper right corner, click playback

see what you have set as your client maximum resolution

chromecast will support 10 bit afaik but that can be a challenge for a lot of devices - https://developers.google.com/cast/docs/media

Is that ffmpeg log the same video as the videos in the log from your first post. I noticed you, for some reason, redacted the show name in the first log, but not the ffmpeg log. I have no way to verify that the logs are associated since ffmpeg logs don't include time stamps.

For the future, redacting WAN IPs is fine, redacting user names is fine. Please don't redact file names. Those are important for matching jellyfin and ffmpeg logs.

Regardless, the ffmpeg log indicates that your server is more than capable of transcoding, so I'm not sure that is the problem anyway.

Have you tried rebooting your server? Why? Because Windows is dumb sometimes.

Also try manually setting the max bit rate in the jellyfin app on your chromecast to 120Mbps. The "Auto" setting is bugged and sometimes sets a really low bit rate.

Apologies, my bad. I didn't consider it fully, shall be more mindful in the future.

This appears to have remedied it for the time being. Feel a bit D'Oh here, "have you tried turning it on and off again"
