Does my jellyfin not like AC/DC ? - pixel24 - 2023-10-17
Hi@all,
I digitize my CD's with Rubyripper under Linux. Then I edit all the data with MusicBrainz Picard before I copy the files to the server. Now I have a problem with my albums from AC/DC. The tags "Artists" (Artist, Album Artist,...) are correct for all albums. All values are "AC/DC".
When I look in Jellyfin under Artists or Album Artists -> click on tab "A" AC/DC does not appear here.
I have as admin under: Overview -> Libraries
already run the scan several times but they just don't show up.
When I go to Jellyfin:
Home -> Music -> Albums -> Sorted by last added
the albums show up. When I open an album I see the artist "AC DC" (without "/").
What could be the problem?

I have tried the following:
1. moved the directory with all albums of AC/DC from the server to the local disk.
2. in Jellyfin the music library: Scan -> Replace all metadata.
3. looked at logfile to see when Jellyfin is done
4. server restart
5. in the directory "AC-DC" (local machine) removed all Folder.jpg and NFO files.
6. copy the directory back to the server
7. libraries -> scan -> search for new / changed files

i was able to get AC/DC to scan with AC_DC but ACDC, AC+DC, AC-DC do not
also with folder structure
Artist/Album/01-Track.mp3
AC_DC/Back in Black/01-Hells Bells.mp3
however, in the case of Back in Black the album still needed to be identified manually from the library listing using identify
Highway to Hell scanned normally on it's own

I have now changed all artist tags (album, tracks etc.) from AC/DC to AC-DC. Then started the scan but nothing to see from the Australians in JF :-(
Here is some more info. Maybe this will help. As said. Under "Artists" or "Album Artists" AC/DC is not available for me. If I choose: Music -> Albums and sort by "last added" / "descending" I see the album "High Voltage" (See attachment).
Since a few weeks I rip CD's almost daily for my collection. I have no problems with the other artists. At least I haven't noticed any.

i created a new library to find out why acdc would not scan using generic empty files for the sake of scanning
i don't normally use jf for music and i have no actual albums i can scan which will have tags
but i think the 'artists' section is being filled in by tags because i have no entries at all even though there should be 2
might direct focus to the tags in the files to see why AC/DC will not show in Artists but as of now i am not able to assist further

My media path for AC/DC content is
/media/library/Music/ACDC
Files in it are named "AC-DC - song name.flac". All were run through Musicbrainz Picard for full tagging.
No issues with find AC/DC by selecting "A" in the artist list.

I have removed the entire "AC_DC" directory from the file system (Jellyfin) or moved it to the local machine. The library in Jellyfin is called "Music" and is located under:
/data01/Audio/Music
In it was the folder AC_DC. This folder is now gone.I logged into Jellyfin as admin (the user is not allowed to manage libraries) and:
Overview -> Libraries -> Music -> Scnae Library -> Scane for new and updated data.
On the local machine I renamed the directory to "ACDC" and changed all files in it to: "AC-DC ....". The structure of the folder is now as follows:

The file names additionally contain the artist. I don't know if this is relevant.
Afterwards I copied the complete directory "ACDC" back to the server to: /data01/Audio/Music/ and started the above mentioned scan again.
In Jellyfin -> Homescreen -> Music -> Albums -> sort by "last added" you can now see all seven albums of AC/DC.
-> Album Artists -> Tab "A" -> None AC/DC
-> Artists -> Tab "A" -> No ACDC
main screen -> search -> string: AC -> No ACDC
I have no idea what else to try :-(
What surprises me is that when I open the albums I see "AC DC" as the artist and not "AC/DC" as in the tag. See attachment.

In Jellyfin (as administrator) -> Metadata Manager it looks like shown in the attachment. Where does JF get the artist "AC DC" although all data (ID3 tag) says "AC/DC"?

I was able to find the problem :-) (see attachment)
I looked in the metadata editor. There was a completely wrong BusicBrainz artist ID on the main folder "ACDC". I don't know where Jellyfin got this from.
In my files there was (from MusikBrainz Picard) the correct ID. I copied this into the metadata editor and manually entered "AC/DC" as artist and album artist for each track. After that everything was correct
