Would this be okay? - Svennai - 2025-11-02 Im new to setting up servers and Im attempting to turn my old PC stuff into a Jellyfin server and was wondering if this would work? (I know I keep seeing that Intel is recommended, but was just hoping this would be an okay option at the least) AMD Ryzen 3 3200G with Radeon Vega Graphics 8GB RAM I have an old GPU laying around that I could use if a dedicated GPU is needed (GTX 960) Also I keep seeing people say if you dont need transcoding then you could use like a raspberry pi. In what instance would I not need transcoding? RE: Would this be okay? - conor - 2025-11-03 Radeon Vega will be fine for at least a couple of simultaneous trans-codes. AMD trans-coding quality used to be bad but they're ok now. Some clients can play most any file directly from the server. Others are limited with regards to which audio/video codecs they support, in which case the server will transcode to a suitable format. https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/clients/codec-support/ Essentially, if you're using Kodi or Jellyfin Media Player as a client then you won't need trans-coding. Otherwise, it depends...  |
