Extreme Jellyfin slow downs and suspicous behavior - Colie286 - 2025-11-13 Hey everyone, A few days ago, I posted about this issue on Reddit, but unfortunately, I still haven’t found a solution. Since then, I’ve tried a few more things: I kept Cloudflare set to “proxied” (Reverse Proxy via Nginx) but completely disabled caching using Rules. I also tested it locally, and interestingly, it worked fine that way. Disk speeds are within normal ranges, as are the speeds of my server and my friends who are streaming from it. The main problems occur with Direct Streaming and Transcoding. What’s strange is that when I watch on my TV (also through the domain), it usually runs smoothly. But for my friends, it often acts up — even though everyone has a solid internet connection. Sometimes I also experience issues on my PC, especially when I’m testing scenarios together with my friends. My setup: I’m running a ThinkServer RD330 with 2× Intel Xeon E5-2440 (12 cores / 24 threads), several HDDs and SSDs, and 96 GB of RAM. Proxmox is the hypervisor, and Jellyfin runs inside an LXC container with plenty of resources assigned (I haven’t passed through a GPU yet). Below is my original Reddit post, including the ffmpeg log link. I’d really appreciate any help or ideas you might have! Thanks in advance From Reddit ( Extreme Jellyfin slow downs, that i've never had before : r/jellyfin ): "Hey Guys, I’ve been using Jellyfin for quite a while, but I’ve never really noticed any slowdowns or micro lags myself. My Jellyfin instance runs inside an LXC container, with the media stored on an HDD, while Jellyfin itself is installed on an SSD. Recently, however, my friends have been experiencing more frequent issues. Sometimes the stream takes up to five minutes to start loading, and playback often stutters with small micro lags. Today it’s particularly bad; it’s almost impossible to watch any stream smoothly without constant lagging and interruptions. I’m not using an iGPU for transcoding, since my CPU doesn’t have one. I’ve allocated 12 cores and 8 GB of RAM to the container. The HDD that holds the movies has a read speed of about 145 MB/s. Sometimes, even when only audio is being converted (and not the video), the playback still lags — or even when there’s no transcoding at all. At other times, when transcoding does occur, CPU usage rises to around 80%, even though I’ve limited the process to 2 threads. Regardless of whether I set it to “auto” or “2 threads,” there’s no noticeable difference in the stuttering. I’ve uploaded one of the transcoding logs to Pastebin for reference. I’m currently running Jellyfin version 10.11.2. btw.: Uploadspeed is good ![]() Thanks for your advise https://pastebin.com/SX90gEf7" |
