Linux Mint Service AutoStart - Justin Hull - 2025-11-17 As the description states, it seems that when I restart/reboot my linux Mint server running the Jellyfin server, the service does not automatically start. I was confused when I tried to access my libraries viathe web browser app. I first tried to start from the command line but doing a systemctl start jellyfin, it did not find the service. I went into the Mint Menu under sound and video, clicked on the Jellyfin icon and I then saw the service getting started. Yep, I could now open a web browser app. Then I tried to play music and got a error about "can not play the client..." and went down a rabbit hole of transcoding, codecs et al, but when I looked in the server logs, I noticed a lot of errors saying "could not find media..." What? So I had the server rescan my library, and when done, I could now run the web app *and* play music. My questions are: 1 - is there a way to have the Jellyfin service start automatically when I start the computer. 2 - Why did the server lose all my library locations? Why did I have to rescan the libraries and is there a way for Jellyfin to do this automatically. I had searched the web and did not see anything specific on these topics. Any help or guidance will be appreciated. In the mean time I have a big not on my computer to manually start Jellyfin service and rescan on reboot or start ofsystem. |
