Instead of scraping the metadata, how to make it yourself with nfo & pictures? - Ravn73 - 2023-06-25

Hi,

i would like to start getting the metadata myself. Because scraping everytime imdb, tmdb and so on goes, but i already got a mail from anisearch that i should stop it. They even blocked me for using the plugin and scraping, then i stopped using it and now its ok.
My Jellyfin Server runs over Win10 and the files are on a USB HDD. No, i dont got a VPN or use reverse proxy. Because i use the Win10 daily for work, gaming and other stuff.
But i dont want to buy any programs, because i dont have the money for them. I couldnt find any youtube videos that shows how to do it (write the nfo, picture resolution and etc). Is there any video tutorials out there that explains how to do it?

Why am i not buying a VPN, programs, another cheap pc and other stuff: it costs money. Not that i wouldnt pay for them, i just dont got enough money for them. Even when its cheap for you, its not for me. So please, no "Buy this, that" and so on.

I thank you all for answering

Hey @Ravn73

No worries, you can always even edit the metadata by yourself with jellyfins web-ui.
Just go into your library, pick a movie/series, click on the 3dots to the lower right of that movie, click on "edit metadata".
There you can just edit away.

I already did that for 3 series, it took me 3 weeks. And the UI... lets say you want to write someting in it. Like "The surviving crew assess the damage to the ship and make work assignments based on the remaining talent. A leadership committee is assembled, and work started to bolster life support.", but you have to copy it from another tab. When you copy that from another tab, click on the UI Tab, it closes the most of the time. Because accidently i click on the window beside of the UI.
That would be ok, when you only have short series. But i am sometime who gets his series/cartoons from when i was a kid. And some  of them(mostly) had 50 episodes and more. And doing that again... no thank you.

"But you can make a Backup!". I already tried that. The folders what the wiki/documentary and what is in reddit mentioned, either didnt exist (i can see all folders) or was empty. So i copied every folder that i found that had to do with jellyfin on a other hdd, wrote down the paths where they belonged. Installed Win10 again (i had to), installed jellyfin in the same way before, copied the saved folders from my other hhd to the paths what i wrote down. And nothing got saved.
Would be nice if we had an extra program or would be intregrated in jellyfin, a way to backup everything.

Sorry for my complaining. Its not against you.

Thats the reason i want to save the whole nfo (what i am already using, but its scraping), pictures and so on in the folder of the movie/series.

It takes a long time because its a lot of info. Thats why we scrape it.

I don't understand your reason for not wanting to do this automatically?

Also - you can save all meta data that you scrape in your media folders automatically, heres how:

Dashboard ->libraries->3 dots-> manage library. select:
save artwork into media folders
&
SAve subtitles into media folders
&
metadata savers -> Nfo.

P.S. for my anime collection have had better luck with anilist than anysearch.

P.P.S. - if you are worried about bothering the databases too often - make sure you set "automatically refresh metadata from the internet" to "never"

You should open an issue with the plugin if you are getting emails about your usage rate. The plugin should either have an API key or stay within free limits.  Not doing so is a bug.
Everybody scans, sometimes very large libraries every day, so,  you also can scan without worrying about it.  I would just disable the anilist plugin until the rate limit issue is either confirmed and resolved or the developer clarifies the reason this is happening.
