Jellyfin Fatal Playback Error Using Hardware Acceleration - ssenrah - 2025-12-01
Hi there,
Problem:
When I enable hardware acceleration in Jellyfin, I am unable to play video content. I receive fatal playback errors after a few seconds of the video trying to initialize. Video content plays fine without hardware acceleration enabled. Music content seems unaffected
Desired Outcome:
I can enable hardware acceleration and watch video content with hardware acceleration enabled
My Setup:
- Gigabyte Technology Z97X-SLI-CF Motherboard
- Intel Core i7-4790K CPU
- Intel Arc A380 GPU
- 32 GiB DDR3 RAM
- Unraid 7.2.0
- Jellyfin 10.11.4 running in Docker (official docker container)
Details:
GPU was added to Unraid template as a new device. Container device is listed as "/dev/dri/renderD128", but I've also tried "/dev/dri" and "/dev/dri/renderD129". I have tried both VAAPI and QSV for hardware acceleration, but have had no success with either. Playback does not work in the web browser nor on the Android app. This is my first time using this GPU (it was bought specifically for transcoding on my server).
