Subtitle Storage - CleverId10t - 2025-12-12

At some point in time the subtitle storage appears to have gotten a little out of hand on my jellyfin 10.11.4 on Ubuntu using official docker) install.

Using ncdu to go through the directory that is used by the docker image there is 128.3GiB in /data and 12.3 GiB in /metadata

Within /data there is 124.3 GiB in data/subtitles and 1.7GiB in data/introskipper

Within /subtitles, I'm seeing files in the tens of MiB, which I presume are extracted image based subtitles.

As my jellyfin server now has sufficient CPU to do most things live, I'm happy to try going back to not having extracted subtitles and have turned off the scheduled task to extract, however how would I go about cleaning up extracted subtitles from the database?

Extracted subtitle state isn’t stored in the database so you can safely just delete the files from the folder.

On my NAS I have my Jellyfin dataset shares set as read-only. Even though I have store subtitles along side of movies (I know it needs to be set read-write) it's storing my external subtitles in /var/lib/jellyfin/metadata/library/, in what looks like random directories, how can I go back and correct this issue?
Can the external subtitles be moved or deleted?

I recently installed Open Subtitles plugin hoping to get only Forced Subtitles (yes, another story) and ran into this issue.
