TrueHD does not trandscode while playing on LG C2 - Topomov - 2023-11-04

Hey guys,

Not sure if this is a bug I should raise on Github or if I failed something (probably).

I have an LG C2. Unfortunately it does not support DTS. I'm still able to play some files that use it (DTS-HD MA 7.1) through transcoding. The playback info reads "Direct Stream" which is normal.

But when trying to play TrueHD 7.1, the playback info reads "Direct Play" and I end up with no sound.

I'm running Jellyfin 10.8.11.

Does anyone have an idea? Thank you so much!

I'm assuming you are the same person that asked this in the Matrix chat?

For anyone else that stumbles on this thread, this is a known issue in the WebOS jellyfin app.

Hi there,

I am. I thought the forum was possibly a more suitable place for that question so that the answers wouldn't get drowned and forgotten.

Thank you for your help!

Hey again!

I've got a question which I think is relevant to my original post so I thought I'd ask it here. (I apologize if it's the wrong place to do so)

Out of curiosity, I tried to explore other solutions and decided to try to use an android box that came with my ISP. That box wouldn't support DTS TrueHD either. But while tinkering a bit, I encountered the external player/libVLC options and to my surprise everything would work flawlessly! (well I did have some slight audio delay using libVLC)

I was pretty surprised by that as I thought it was dependent on the codec on the hardware/firmware? Or does VLC do some sort of transcoding? I got me to ask myself the question wherever there was a reason why people would spend so much time thinking about X or Y android box (depending on which codec they support), when they can apparently simply use libVLC or an external player? I'm not sure if I'm missing something.

libvlc doesn't support dolby vision so there's 1 reason someone may look for a device that has all the codec support instead of using vlc

just playing sound doesn't mean it is working as intended, most enthusiasts are looking for passthrough where it is bitstreamed to their audio equipment

but for every user it is a matter of finding what works best for them, for you; you have found that libvlc does what you want and so it would be your best choice
