Unnecessary transcoding - weberc2 - 2023-11-07
Hello,
The transcoder kicks in when playing mkvs, but if I mux it to mp4 ahead of time it works fine. The media in question is HEVC, but it doesn't transcode when converted to mp4 so I don't think HEVC is to blame. I saw https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin/issues/6450, which was closed a year ago and I'm using 10.8.11 (Linux/arm64). Does anyone have any ideas? I'd like to not have to pre-mux everything if I can avoid it.

EDIT: Under the logs, I'm seeing
TranscodeReason=VideoCodecNotSupported, AudioCodecNotSupported when using HEVC/mkv but HEVC/mp4 lists PlayMethod=DirectPlay, TranscodeReason=0
