The Uptime Thread - How Long Can You Keep Your Server Going? - tmsrxzar - 2023-11-22

A nerd post.

Show your last/best or current uptimes.

I keep a record of the last 'uptime' every time I have to do maintenance on my Jellyfin server which needs a restart just for my own sake.

Here are my last

up 54 days, 17:38,  1 user,  load average: 0.01, 0.09, 0.05
up 33 days,  2:01,  1 user,  load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00
up 69 days, 4:26, 1 user, load average: 0.06, 0.02, 0.00

And here is my Current

up 29 days, 21:03, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00

I would be interested to see how this compares with other users.

Host is Debian Bookworm and this coincides with a rebuild of the server when I upgraded from Bullseye to the new stable.

Since I am using the HWE kernel with my Ubuntu 22.04 server install (needed for Intel Arc support), I don't get Live Patching. That is only supported on the 5.15 kernel. So my uptimes are 14 days max when I reboot every other Tuesday for kernel updates. I play to upgrade to 24.04 and stick with the LTS kernel in that release (6.5?) so I should be getting Live Patching and much longer uptimes.

I think my reverse proxy vserver runs now for 200 day-ish? my nas for 80 days alongside my dev server.

indeed exposed servers need a lot more attention, mine are behind firewalls and contained within intranets where external threats are not typical (almost impossible)

My highest time was 62 days, but unfortunately I live in the third world where power outages are very frequent, and can go on for hours sometimes... I've simply given up on the idea of beating my current record.
