Are my specs good enough? - Hollow YT7 - 2023-11-27

My processor is Intel Core i5-2540M and my GPU is NVIDIA NVS 4200M. Can I do 4K transcoding? If not, can I do 1080p transcoding?

Your Intel Core i5-2540M processor and NVIDIA NVS 4200M GPU are a bit dated, and their capabilities might not be sufficient for smooth 4K transcoding.

The Intel Core i5-2540M is a dual-core processor from the Sandy Bridge generation, which lacks hardware-accelerated encoding for newer video codecs like H.265/HEVC. Similarly, the NVIDIA NVS 4200M is an older GPU that might not support the hardware acceleration required for efficient 4K transcoding.

However, for 1080p transcoding, especially with applications like Jellyfin, it's more likely to handle the workload. The transcoding capabilities for 1080p would largely depend on the codec and bitrate of the video, but your setup should be able to handle it to some extent.

For single 1080p transcoding tasks, your setup should manage reasonably well, especially if the transcoding workload isn't too demanding
efficiently utilizes available hardware acceleration. It's advisable to monitor system performance while transcoding to ensure smooth operation without overwhelming the hardware.

Your setup can't do 4K transcoding. 1080P is unlikely at an acceptable quality or responsiveness.
