Organizing my folders - carlmart - 2023-11-28

I wonder how can I do the following with Jellyfish.

Though years of dealing with media managers, using just my PC as server, with separate HDDs, folders and subfolders,
I got to the following organizing:

HDD A > Main Folder > Subfolders > Media

HDD B > Main Folder > Subfolders > Media

... And so on.

How do I do to organize things in a similar way with Jellyfish?

Sometimes there are additional subfolders.

I couldn't figure how to do that with JF. The first time I set it up it mixed HDDs, folders, subfolders and media.

Thanks

follow the naming conventions listed by jellyfin if you want jellyfin to correctly identify and scrape metadata

https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/server/media/movies
https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/server/media/shows
https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/server/media/music

if you just want a library of "a bunch of videos" create a library and set it's type to "Photos", jellyfin will not scrape any information and instead use available metadata embedded in the files as well as a screen grab from the video (if enabled)

But I want the "Movies" group or the "Music" to be split in several separate groups each. It makes accessing them much easier. I learned that from my experience in handling them daily, lately with Kodi.

It's very simple, but it needs to be separated like HDDs and folder are in Windows File Manager.

Can I get something similar with Jellyfin?

yes they would be separate; add a library in jellyfin, set it's type to movies, add folders to movies from all sources from all drives (drive1/movies, drive2/movies, drive3/movies) to the same library entry, they will be combined into 1 when displaying

you can also create a library entry for each drive if you want them sectioned, they will show up as different groups

repeat for each type tvshows and music individually

it's more robust than kodi but also very similar in the basics such as folder structure and content type

My media is spread across three hard drives.  As long as the structure matches what tmsrxzar linked, you can have multiple root folders in a library.

If you're saying that you want the exact same folder structure in jellyfin as you have in your media server, then

Dashboard -> Libraries -> Display tab -> (tick) Display a folder view to show plain media folders

You can still update metadata if you do this, and the folder structure remains the same as in your file manager/explorer
