Hardware choice for Jellyfin? - 8940324 - 2023-12-02 Hi everyone! I currently run Jellyfin a virtual machine (on a VMware ESXi 7 host). My VMware lab is on two Supermicro servers (specs below), but I am about to change that for Proxmox. Since the Supermicro server doesn't have a GPU I cannot do any hardware transcoding, so I am considering using a spare gaming PC but would love some input. Option 1: Supermicro Servers with Proxmox
Eventually I would like to get a 10GbE QNAP NAS and a 10GbE switch. Right now I have a 1GbE managed switch for networking. Any insights or experiences with similar setups would be greatly appreciated! RE: Hardware choice for Jellyfin? - TheDreadPirate - 2023-12-02 Of those two options, I'd choose the gaming PC. Transcoding will be MUCH better with a GPU. RE: Hardware choice for Jellyfin? - 8940324 - 2023-12-02 Great thanks! I'll start my build today ![]() |
