Buffering/Stutering Issue - deecee24 - 2023-12-07 Hello All, I've been tearing my hair out trying to resolve stuttering/freezing issues I've been having since I changed ISPs and hoping someone can help out. I'll preface this first by saying that I am a complete beginner at this, but have tried researching and googling my issue. At my previous apartment, I was using Jellyfin on my Windows 10 laptop as the server, which was connected to wifi through Spectrum (300d/10u) with the Asus RT-AX86U router. Movies were streamed on my Apple TV 4k via Infuse connected to Jellyfin, which was connected to ethernet. Initially, I was having slowdowns and stuttering on all movies, until I disabled "Web Protection" with NordVPN on my laptop. This increased streaming speeds from ~30Mbps to ~300Mbps (no idea why this helped, but it did). All movies (4k and 1080P) were streaming fine with no issues. I've recently moved apartments and switched ISP to Frontier Fios (500d/500u). I'm using the same router I used previously with the same server setup and connections. Now I'm experiencing buffering and stuttering issues on all movies. Running a speed test in Infuse, my speeds would initially start at ~300Mbps. However, once I play a movie on Infuse, stop the movie, and run the same speed test, the speed drops down to ~60Mbps. "Web Protection" is still disabled on NordVPN. Jellyfin shows that I am direct playing and not transcoding. I also tried using my Nvidia Shield Pro using Jellyfin for Kodi, but still encountering buffering and stuttering. Restarting my router yields similar results. Speeds would be fast, but once a movie starts playing, speeds would dip. This leads me to believe maybe something within my router settings has changed with the ISP switch or something is creating a bottleneck once I start playing a movie. Here is my Jellyfin log: https://sourceb.in/w5wMAwUKmB Laptop Specs: Intel® Core i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59 GHz GeForce RTX 2060 32.0GB RAM Hopefully, someone can help with this issue. RE: Buffering/Stutering Issue - TheDreadPirate - 2023-12-07 Is your router the only router? At the last place I lived with Verizon FIOS, I had to use their router in addition to mine. I'm assuming it is the same with Frontier FIOS since that all used to belong to Verizon. Frontier supplied an Amazon Eero router, but I decided to use my previous router. Do you mind explaining how you used both routers together? RE: Buffering/Stutering Issue - TheDreadPirate - 2023-12-07 IIRC, I had to set the Verizon router to bridge mode. And there were a couple extra steps I don't recall. This was over 10 years ago. I'm assuming you didn't hook up the Eero router at all? The only time the Eero router was hooked up was during the initial installation, after which I unhooked it and plugged my router in once the Frontier rep left. |
