Not sure, but it would help if you shared the details on your subtitles info/client versions.

When I check an example on mine, I also have the opaque bars on subtitles.
(Opaque bars do not appear when viewing same file in webclient on Firefox.)

iOS Client: 1.5.0

MKV File Info:
<subtitle>
<codec>subrip</codec>
<micodec>subrip</micodec>
<language>eng</language>
<scantype>progressive</scantype>
<default>False</default>
<forced>False</forced>
</subtitle>

Please don't post the same question twice.  It's Christmas.  You may not get a prompt response.

This is a client side setting.  I'm not familiar enough with the Apple side of things.  Here is where the subtitle settings are for the web client.

Well that's weird, they appear in Chrome, Safari and Edge. I installed Firefox to test it and got no black bars, also tested on an Android and didn't get black bars either.

I am using the latest versions for macOS and iOS. I've seen posts from 2 years ago of people asking about this issue, unfortunately they were unsuccessful at solving it, thought this could have a solution now.

Not sure how to get the subtitle info you asked but i tried with different files and the results are the same, except in Firefox and Android.

Sorry, my bad. I thought i posted in the wrong forum, so i duplicated my post and tried to delete the previous one, but I couldn't find a delete button. It won't happen again.

Happy holidays!
