Browser playback is a stuttery mess - Brumes - 2023-12-26

Trying to watch anything in a browser is just a stuttery mess, the server is installed on a windows machine with a i74770 and a 1070gtx Nvenc should be enabled and seems to work.

When I try to watch something in chrome on either a PC or a phone it will stutter and the playback info reports dropped frames, I'd upload a gif but its too big. If set to 360p resolution it does playback smoothly.

yes most browsers do not make good clients because they do not implement hardware acceleration
recommend installing an actual jellyfin client https://jellyfin.org/downloads

Official android app suffers from the same issue.

Is there some way to force a transcode to a version better suited to browser playback? Or does it not work like that.

What are the specs of the playback device?

The phone used for the playback tests is a Oneplus 7, The PC used for the browser playback is a 12700k + 3080

Does the jellyfin server use an SSD for the main drive? Are transcodes written to that SSD?

Jellyfin install is on an SATA SSD, Media is on an HDD.
I have no idea where the transcodes are written, how would I find out?

It does seem like when stuttering the playback info says "Direct playing", So I would assume that means no transcode takes place?

Network issue? If you transcode and lower the bit rate does it work fine?

Local network is solid.
Wired CAT5E Connections from the server to the client machine. Also don't have any issues with playback on the native windows client, only in browser.

The only playback that does not stutter is the is =<1.5mpbs bitrates, This also seems to be the only ones that transcode, Is there way to force it to transcode the other resolutions/bitrates?
