Optimize multiple clients - knklhead - 2023-12-27

Loving Jellyfin.  I have a home network, sharing HDHOMERUN devices.  I have two that use cablecards and FIOS and one that connects live local TV over antenna, with high definition.

My elderly father logs in, as well as my brother from different cities.  My dad uses Chrome device with large screen display, my brother uses a Roku TV.

Since I often have two channel feeds, say channel 504 on FIOS and channel 4.1 on local antenna and we want to, say, watch a football game on CBS:
*  Should I tell my dad to view channel 4.1 and my brother to use channel 504?  Would that be more efficient, having them use two different streams when they log in, one Chrome client and one Roku client?   Or
* Should I tell them to both use channel 504?

Is one stream more efficient when transcoding or is it more efficient for server to transcode two streams separately?

Also, does it make sense to  have their bandwidth set to auto, versus throttling them down artificially?  They both show they are running transcode ..  should I turn on HVEC for brother's Roku?

I have a pretty capable Acer Predator desktop that is serving up the media to them and it's working pretty well. I just want the best experience.   they are currently set to "auto" and chrome is as 20.4 mbps and 30-ish FPS, same as Roku client, 20.4 mpgs and 30 or so FPS.

I am a newb, hope these questions make sense!

As I said, the system is awesome, thank you so much for allowing us to share our local TV!
