Chromecast HEVC playback issues - Mathijs - 2023-12-28
So I have ditched Plex lifetime for Jellyfin and I am really happy with it. I do have one small issue that I can't seem to resolve myself.
When trying to play high quality content (HEVC HDR 2160p) my Chromecast doesn't want to play this. Transcoding works fine for most other media, and I can play this specific media on my PC and phone just fine.
Chromecast is an older model (2nd generation). After starting playback the screen stays black.

Can you share your ffmpeg log with us? I suspect the output of the transcode is 4K.

Here is the log, and it seems the H264 stream that comes out is indeed 4K. Is this related to my settings or is it related to the Chromecast / Jellyfin? I tried to play this media using the max allowed transcode resolution on Auto / 1080p / 720p setting in the Android app.

I believe that setting is for playback on the Android device and doesn't apply to casting. I just tested this myself and I don't see a way to change the cast resolution.
I don't see an existing bug report, but I think you should submit one. Jellyfin should be intelligent enough to know to scale to 1080P.
