Media Conversion / Optimisation - MegaUltraGigaChad - 2023-07-16 Actually, Jellyfin only supports transcoding on the fly, meaning that downloading a file for offline use retrieve the full unmodified file. This is a problem for some who wants to watch stuff offline with high bitrate files, they tends to be heavy in size. While transcoding on the fly works flawless thanks to the dedicated team behind Jellyfin FFMPEG, it becomes a problem when you don't have network access (outside home) or run out of available necessary memory for the requested content. Plex and Emby address these issues by converting the desired media into a user defined resolution (Bitrate) and then send the converted file to the client's download directory, ready to watch offline, Findroid already supports offline mode, but downloading a full 4K remux on a 128gb phone taxes a lot on data and memory. Said request already exist on the official feature request website which in itself is 2 highly requested features "Convert" option (similar to Plex's optimise) · Jellyfin Feature Requests Support offline mode on Android mobile · Jellyfin Feature Requests I'm sure this is the feature a lot of users is waiting before truely transitionning to Jellyfin.
