4k Videos Not Working - kjfils1jia - 2024-01-16

Hello,

I am running a Synology DS224+ and have Jellyfin running. I am able to flawlessly run 1080p and below videos, but when I try to play a 4k video, my entire system locks up and I have to kill the Jellyfin process. I am able to pull up the 4k video file on separate machines and play the video in 4k on different media players without using Jellyfin. Is there something I should change in Jellyfin to get this working?

Thank you!

Quote:PRE-BUILT NAS DEVICES
Many pre-built NAS devices are underpowered. Please check your specs against the above recommendations for a good experience.

my guess is you are using a client that requires transcoding but your nas is not powerful enough, disabling transcoding on the server and only using clients that support direct playback is about the only option

Which version of Jellyfin are you running? I'm assuming you are using Docker to run Jellyfin. If you are using the official jellyfin/jellyfin image, version 10.8.13, there was an update to the Intel OpenCL drivers included in that image that depreciated support for Linux kernel 4.4.X. The problem is that a lot of Synology NASes are still running on 4.4.X and Synology has no plans to update DSM with a newer kernel any time soon.

Yep, I am using 10.8.13. Do I try to use an earlier Jellyfin version?

Would some sort of remote hardware acceleration work?

Or, is there someway to limit all 4k files to 1080p in Jellyfin?

Thank you!

The problem is HDR not, 4k. Your choices are to use the official 10.8.12 image, try to use LSIO's 10.8.13 image with their OpenCL mod, or turn off tone mapping.
