Stuttering audio streaming on IOS devices using WAN connections - Jellix - 2023-07-19
Dear Jellyfin community,
as a enthusiastic new Jellyfin user I am dealing with an certain problem regarding listening music over WAN connections. All my IOS devices will often provide stuttering and choppy playback of music files (only if) using Jellyfin app for IOS connected outside home by WAN/WiFi connections. Even playing videos doesn't make such trouble. If I open another app (e.g. "FileBrowser") which also has the capability to play music, there's no problem.
Setup server side (Home):
- DSL 50 MBit Down / 10 MBit up
- QNAP NAS with SSD
- Jellyfin 10.8.5
- WireGuard by Fritz!Box router
- Tailscale by QNAP app
Client side (e.g. Office):
- WAN connection by Tailscale or WireGuard
- IOS endpoint (IOS 16.x)
- Speed mostly 100 MBit Down / 40 MBit up by WLAN
- Jellyfin IOS app (latest)
First, I thought there is a problem with VPN speed. But only Jellyfin won't stream music flawlessy, other apps like an ordinary file browser app will do.
Any ideas what to do to fix music streaming on IOS devices by Jellyfin?

However, in the meantime I switched to "Finamp" for iOS which does the job very well. Another solution for iOS is "Fintunes" which I haven't tested yet. Generally I would prefer one integrated app for all media. But Jellyfin iOS client is no choice for music streaming by WAN/VPN connections.
