JMP freezing - notfound.404 - 2023-07-19
I was having intermittent issues with Jellyfin Media Player when it played HEVC codec and it tends to happen after using the player for a while. I googled the issue, but couldn't find anyone with the same issue.
After a month, i finally stumbled onto something that may have actually worked. https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-media-player/wiki/Disabling-Hardware-Decoding I disabled the hardware-decoding and haven't had a freeze up for a day. When it freezes, the player stops responding and closing the player does not close out the jellyfinmediaplayer.exe process.
I don't believe many people have this issue but this was killing me and hopefully share something that might help someone else.

Can you tell us more about your hardware specs and OS?

I'm using a Lenovo Tiny m93 and it has a Intel HD Graphics 4600 Video

The Intel HD 4600 graphics do not support HEVC decoding to begin with. So you are probably decoding in software and that fix you found may not have actually changed anything. What CPU is in your Lenovo Tiny m93? Most of the listings I could find for that model have an Intel Core i5 4570T. When you are playing video, what is your CPU load like? What are your CPU temps?

My processor is a Intel® Core™ i7-4765TCPU @ 2.00GHz
See attached for the amount of CPU (15%) / GPU (30%) load it takes when streaming a video.
Yes, I agree it might be decoding in software, but that decode.disabled setting I changed did solve my problem. It's been 3 days of a lot of video playing (hevc and also av1) and no freeze up yet.

I am wondering if it is decoding with DXVA. The video decoding is converted to DirectX instructions and the 3D graphics engine decodes. Which is backed up by the 3D usage instead of video decode usage.
