Movies not found if not inside individual folders - dinosm - 2024-01-22

I have several different folders that contain movies.

Each folder contains movies in both these methods:
- a movie that is a standalone .mkv file in that folder (so for example X/movie.mkv)
- a movie that has multiple versions, both of which are in a subfolder titled after the movie as per Jellyfin's requirements (e.g. X/movie/movie-version.mkv)

All my folders work fine, in that Jellyfin can see both movies that are in the root of each folder as well as those inside subfolders.

All except the newest folder I've created... In this folder, I have all movies inside individual subfolders. If I put a new movie file in that folder NOT in a subfolder, Jellyfin will discover *that* file but lose all the other ones (so all movies in all subfolders will disappear in the next scan). Result is I have to put every single movie inside its own subfolder, even if it does not have any alternate versions.

Can anyone help figure out why this is happening with just this one folder?

i have my library in a similar setup and it doesn't have issues with having both single files as well as movie folders side by side

check the folder's permissions
was/is there anything in the log to indicate a failure?

btw what platform is your server on, what version of the server?
