Shuffle Collection - thewordone - 2023-07-20

Hi all

I have created a collection of media/episodes and was wondering if I'm doing this incorrectly.

I have added (for example) 3x 'shows' (ie, an entire show that has 2-3 seasons of 10+ episodes each etc etc) to a collection, and then I want to randomly play/shuffle the episodes but receive a 'Playback Error' stating the server isn't providing a compatible media format.

Is the collection set up incorrectly? Does it require individual episodes to be added to the collection?

(I did try to search but couldn't find anything on the forum so apologies if this is a double up)

Thanks in advance for any help.

What app are you using for this? Certain apps use different video players that aren't always compatible with what gets thrown at them from your server. You can usually change the player/codec in its respective settings menu.

Hi,

Currently experiencing this error on web-browser (Firefox), standalone desktop application (Jellyfin Media Player) and Android app (both player variants as well, not just the default)

I'm pretty sure it's just failing based on it being a collection of top level shows (ie show X with seasons 1->3 and show Y with seasons 1->8 etc) and is trying to 'play' a season x container? Once I get home I might attempt to make a collection of straight seasons of shows and see if that helps.

Managed to test a few things:

Creating a collection of 3 shows all with 3 or 4 seasons with 10+ episodes each yields the same playback error.
Even creating a collection consisting of the actual *seasons* of the shows (so, one 'level' of abstraction from the content removed) yields the same error.

Obviously, shuffling any of the base shows (in either the season or show level) behaves as expected, am I just misunderstanding the capability of Jellyfin to do this? Why is the shuffle/random button there then haha
