Password Login - CaspHop - 2023-06-19

Hello all,

I have been using Kodi for my media library and have not been very happy with it. Mainly because of performance and stability issues.
I've been testing Jellyfin for a few days now and I really like it so far.

However, there is one problem that I have not been able to solve yet:

I have Jellyfin installed on my FreeNAS Core and I am using the client app on my Android Smart TV.
There are two Jellyfin users.

The first user is the normal user with all movies and series that everyone is allowed to watch.
I want this user to open automatically when I start Jellyfin without entering a password (this user doesn't even have a password).
I call this user "Television".

The second user is for all private stuff and movies or series that are not for children, for example.
This user doesn't have to be hidden, but there should be a password prompt every time when trying to switch to this user!
I named this user "admin" (no one will ever question the existence of a user named "admin").

There was no problem setting up these users with (or without) passwords.
I was also able to connect both users to my smart TV.

The problem so far is that I have to decide if I want password protection for ALL users or for NO users.
If I choose automatic login to the "Television" user, I can switch to the "admin" user without having to enter the password.
If I choose "password required" to log in, I also have to enter the password for the "Television" user, which is blank.
This is very annoying.

Is there a function that supports the workflow I have in mind, or is this perhaps a "feture request" issue after all?

I hope my explanations make sense.
Let me know if there is any information missing or if I should describe something better.

I don't think what you have in mind is currently supported by any of our frontends/apps, so this is likely a feature request for each of them.

For the time being you could use the Easy Pin Code https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/server/users/adding-managing-users/ and put it to 0000 or just 0. You can fill that out in the passwords field on the client.
