Move default transcoding folder - SjoerdHekking - 2024-02-05

Dear reader,

Currently, Jellyfin transcodes on the OS drive, because everything is installed there, however, I want to have it transcode to some other folder and serve the transcoded file from there. Do you have any guides, recommendations, etc?

Thanks in advance!

last time i looked this was configurable from the Dashboard -> Playback (or similar)
is there nothing in the dashboard for this?

Yep. That is where it is located.

Thanks! I was able to locate the setting. I am confused about how I missed it entirely.

Next question, whenever I change the folder to something else the video can't be sent to the viewer. It's weird, because from the same drive I also stream movies directly, and Jellyfin has write/read permissions to this drive. Anything I am missing?

I was able to fix it! Turns out there was a permission group typo!

Platform is Ubuntu (if someone encounters the same problem ever)!
