Unable to connect to server randomly on cellular - kingchangling - 2024-02-11
Randomly cellular connection will not connect to the server properly. this has happened twice when trying to test the feature when off the home network. the only "fix" has oddly been to go into the ui app, opening network, then connection through my phone. i dont change any settings at all i just open networking then it works for some reason. this happened once when i was in a restaurant and i fixed it using team viewer to open the app on the server itself and check networking options. and once at home today when i left my wifi to test seeking speeds while on cellular. i really dont have a clue to why? maybe ust the act of logging in on the server computer itself gets it working. im open to providing any extra information i might be able to provide, even if its something i might have to test some other time since the issue seems random as right now i can connect to the server on cellular just fine. when it fails to connect on my phone it shows that it failed to connect to both http and https variants of the ip address.

Share your server logs with us. Most likely Windows is going to sleep and you need to turn that off.

Nothing in Jellyfin stands out. Definitely sounds like the OS is going to sleep. Is the server a laptop or something?

server is a window 11 desktop i have just running idle it doesnt do anything but act as a nas and run plex and jellyfin.

How do you have Jellyfin setup for remote access? DDNS (or domain) + reverse proxy? VPN? Just port forwarding 8096?

remote access is on no DDNS setup domain or reverse proxy. i do have a vpn on that pc but it isnt running currently nor is it running in the background atm. i went ahead and port forwarded on my ASUS AX5400 using its open nat feature in the router webui. looks like i can connect now, but its something i would need to double check off network again cuz like i mentioned before sometimes it'll let me connect and then just not connect later on, but hopefully manually using the port forward instead of letting jellyfin use upnp to port forward itself, it'll start working more often.

Most routers will expire uPnP rules, so they may have been the issue.
