Sony A80J AndroidTV App Transcoding VC1 - Ahsoka - 2024-02-19

Was watching one of my few VC1 encoded movies over the weekend and noticed there were a few moments during the movie that had some weird glitches/artifacts, which I had initially thought there was an issue during ripping, but then later noticed that the video was being transcoded because "client did not support codec". I'm streaming from the AndroidTV app on my Sony A80J, which from the specification says it supports VC1 from USB playback (could not find any other info on codec support). Is it the AndroidTV app that doesn't support VC1 or something else? Also what could be the cause of the glitches during transcoding (my server should be more than capable for transcoding)?

Spoke with a dev. It seems our app is hardcoded to transcode VC1 at the moment. No idea why there are visual artifacts when transcoding, though. What is your server hardware?

Ahh, is it possible that will change in the future?

Hardware:
- Unraid
- MSI PRO B760M-P
- Intel 12th Gen i5-12600K
- 32 GB DDR4

I have the hardware acceleration set to 'Intel QSV' in the dashboard with VC1 selected.

AFAIK, there is no specific reason VC-1 direct play support was removed from our app (like exo player no longer supporting it).

I can add it to my list of things to do.
