Jellyfin and HDHomeRun tuner questions - Gibber - 2024-03-02

I have Jellyfin 10.8.13 running on a current version of Windows 10.
I recently got an HDHomeRun Flex Duo tuner. I set the tuner up with BDA compatibility set to "EMBY" because Jellyfin was not an option and I assumed EMBY most compatible choice.
I set up Live TV and Jellyfin would not auto detect the HDHomeRun tuner but when I entered the IP address manually it did connect and show the correct channels.
Live TV works with the Jellyfin LG TV client and also web browser, but I do not get any EPG data in the Jellyfin Guide. I had checked the tuner with the HDHomeRun app and it shows EPG data for the OTA channels.
- Is EMBY the best BDA compatibility mode to use with Jellyfin?
- Is there any way to get Jellyfin to capture the OTA EPG data that is available on the tuner?

edit: I had to disable guide for all tuner devices and make it for the tuner specifically.

I normally use NextPVR plugin for live tv but I tried to install as you did by ip address after it didn't detect a tuner and have the similar issue. It sees it, imports the channels but won't let me map the channels to Schedules Direct. When I go to map channels, there are no channels there to map. Channels seem to play ok.

I looked in my tuner log for my Hauppauge Hardware Model WinTV-DCR-2650 and it had the following error,  "myhdhomerun_sync: webclient error (dns failed)". I don't know why the tuner itself would be pulling from myhdhomerun sync since it is a Hauppauge. This probably is unrelated to the issue.

Either way, JellyFin won't let me map channels. I did check and the SD user credentials are correct.

I realized that I had not properly installed the Silicon Dust "HDHomeRun Software for Windows" which includes drivers for the tuner. After doing this Jellyfin did automatically detect the tuner and add my channels to the Live TV Channels and Guide pages.

Unfortunately I am still unable to retrieve any of the OTA EPG data from my local channels.

Gibber, where you able to get your OTA EPG working yet with your HDHomerun? I was able to get it working with a simple batch script on Windows, but you do need to have the DVR subscription with Silicon Dust for it to work. You can also sign up for an account with Schedules Direct, which is dead simple. Either one will cost you $35 USD annually. I haven't found a reliable free EPG source, yet.

Hi,
I did get OTA EPG into Jellyfin eventually but only through the NextPVR plugin. That method did not require any subscriptions.
