Subtitles problem - yep123 - 2024-03-09

Hello Everyone,

I recently installed Jellyfin on my laptop as a server. I play the files using a NVDIA mediaplayer. The Player plays the movies well, but won't download the subtitles even though i have the openn subtitles plugin installed on the server. Does anyone has a tip how to fix this??

Have you signed up to open subtitles? It's not just a case of installing the plugin.

Why Nvidia media player (which I'm assuming uses DLNA) and not our desktop client, Jellyfin Media Player?

As for the subtitle question, you need to install the open subtitle plugin. But there is a 10 (or was it 20) downloads per day limit for free accounts. You either need to wait until tomorrow or upgrade to a paid account.

I have Jellyfin installed on a Shield Pro and use MX Player Pro as the video player. If I try to download subtitles with MX Player inside Jellyfin, I get an error saying it cannot write to the location (storage/emulated/0/subtitles which I assume is internal memory of the Shield, which has USB added to storage). If I use MX Player by itself it has no problem downloading and storing the files in this location so it appears there's some permissions error, yet both apps have the same permission to access files and media.

Does this mean I need to install the open subtitle plugin on the Shield in addition to get an opensubtitle account to do this in Jellyfin?

Any particular reason you are using MX Player and not exo or libVLC in Jellyfin? Is your server unable to transcode or something?

I do not see the ability to download subtitles in those players. Am I missing something?

I'm assuming your media does not come with subtitles. Either external or embedded.

Subtitle downloading is handled by the server, not the client, in Jellyfin. You need to install the open subtitles plugin on the server. If you want more than the daily limit of a free account you will need to get a paid account.
