Tome Mapping w/macOS server 7 Hardware Acceleration - majorsl - 2024-03-10

Hi All. Just getting into Jellyfin and have it running in the macOS on my old 2018 Mac mini. I have a few HDR videos that I want to playback on an SDR TV/Roku (not my primary TV, but used on occasion.)
Since I'm running natively in the macOS, I'm wondering if I just use Apple Video Toolbox and if it supports the Tone Mapping.

I'm also not sure I'm seeing Tone Mapping settings for the macOS, unless I'm over looking those.  Is it not available?

For Intel based Macs, you would need to run Linux or Windows to fully utilize the hardware since Apple VT doesn't support tone mapping and there isn't a jellyfin-ffmpeg version for MacOS.

Thanks, I suspected as much.

Not for current version of Jellyfin, but it will be available for Jellyfin 10.9. See here: https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin/discussions/11137

But we cannot guarantee the tone mapping performance on 2018 Mac Mini would be acceptable though, as its GPU power is very limited.
