DLNA dolby vision - arkont - 2024-03-10

Hello,

I've been using plex and decided to switch to jellyfin because of free transcoding. I've run into a weird problem. I have LG TV (WebOS) with DV support and I use ffmpeg to convert from mkv to mp4, until I realised that jellyfin supports tone mapping. The kicker? This works on everything except the TV that supports it (my xiaomi tablet supports DV and it displays there correctly). There are a few differences that I've noticed: where it works format is reported as webm and not mkv, and it correctly says dovi instead of HDR. The MP4 files with DoVi content say HDR10, but the TV correctly recognises DV and displays it correctly. One other thing: in all these other cases, resolution of the screen was not exactly 4K but something similar which enforced transcoding.

The question is... how do I force webos/DLNA to correctly send dovi signal? Is there a way to force webm container transcode or something that would correctly interpret dovi?

PS
I tried looking for similar topics, but they seem to relate to classic mkv issue, and this is more of a webos/dlna problem.

I can't speak from experience, only as an observer. WebOS is a mess even before you add the mess that is HDR into the mix. Save yourself the headache and get another Android TV box/dongle.
