Missing Artist Label - kfank - 2024-03-13

Several of my music albums are missing the artist label as shown here.  For example, I have two albums in this directory:

HP6200-Linux: /srv/media/music/Northwest University Choralons$ ls
faithful  'We Are Not Ashamed'

The album "faithful" is properly indexed and shows the artist "Northwest University Choralons", but the other does not.  I didn't see anywhere in the metadata to set the artist, so I think it must exclusively get that from the path.  How can I fix this?

Are the file's metadata tags properly filled out? You can use an app like MusicBrainz Picard to automatically tag your music as well as embed album images.

In this case it is an obscure group and not in the MusicBrainz database. The metadata for both albums contain only the path, album name, and date added. But, in once case the artist name is displayed and the other it is not, even though they are located in the same artist directory.

You have a few options. Manually adding metadata tags in your music. I think you can still use MusicBrainz Picard to do this. Winamp and other music players can do this. You could also create a MusicBrainz entry for this band/album. I had to do that when an obscure guitarist I listen to released a new album.

Jellyfin is pretty reliant on metadata tags being populated.

Thank-you. I was able to manually add the missing artist and albumartist tags to the files using MusicBrainz Picard.
