tips for 2nd iteration of server - msterwayne - 2024-03-15

Hi all!
Just got my hands on a new-to-me blank slate desktop PC that I'm going to migrate my server to. My plan is to install Ubuntu on the new PC. I'm currently running the latest Jellyfin version on an old Windows 8.1 Enterprise laptop. Any tips/suggestions for an easy migration/2nd iteration of my server setup? Pitfalls I should watch out for (I've never used Linux before lol)? Optimization suggestions while I'm starting "fresh"? I already have Trakt set-up to sync my watch history.
Thank you!

The only suggestion is to use the server variant of Ubuntu. Since that doesn't have a UI, that means it uses a lot less memory, fewer packages are installed, etc. Other than that, there aren't really any "optimizations". Ubuntu server comes with the bare minimum and then you add stuff.
