Will 5.0 sound system cause downmix of 5.1 audio? - yshi - 2024-03-18

So, it appears, if I'm understanding correctly, that the Samsung soundbars are fairly privacy respective as long as I don't connect it to WiFi for Alexa/SmartThings, and there is currently a sale (S60B $350->$230).

I was wondering if anyone knew whether using a 5.0 stereo system would cause a 5.1 audio track being streamed to remux the audio, or if it'll simply not have the bump and grumble that would be expected with a x.1 system?

Depends on the client. For example, you can tell the Jellyfin Android TV app to do passthrough and your device will handle the audio processoing.

Oops, forgot to mention that part.

There's a Roku Streaming Stick (3810X), and Roku Express 4K (3941X). I want to say they both have the option to try to force whatever comes through?

I'm away from my house for the next couple days. I only have a Roku for testing so I'm not super familiar with it yet. I'll get back to you on Thursday. Unless someone else responds.

I direct played a 5.1 video into a 2.0 setup. Looks like it just outputs the audio and lets the playback device handle the downmixing.
