Enhancing Audio Track Selection Clarity in Jellyfin for Movies Stored in ISO and Full - lonus - 2024-03-25

I have several movies stored either as ISO files or in a full disk directory format (containing BDMV and certificate directories). These movies come with multiple audio tracks, such as different languages or commentary tracks. While Jellyfin can read these files without issues, it displays the audio tracks as generic labels like 'Dolby Digital 5.1,' 'TrueHD 7.1,' 'Stereo,' etc. The problem arises when there are multiple tracks labeled the same way (e.g., multiple 'Dolby Digital 5.1' tracks), making it hard to distinguish between them and choose the desired language.

Currently, I solve this issue by remuxing the movie playlist using mkvtoolnix, which results in Jellyfin displaying the audio tracks with more specific labels like 'Spanish - Dolby Digital 5.1.' Is there a way to configure Jellyfin to display audio tracks directly from the ISO or full directory in the same detailed manner without needing to remux the files?

My understanding is that Jellyfin 10.8 does not support ISOs very well. But the upcoming 10.9 should support ISOs better. But I haven't been able to find anything specifically stating that it will read in the language tag.

I got a clearer answer. Jellyfin's ISO support is derived from what ffmpeg supports. In short, ffmpeg support for ISO probing is not great. A BDMV or VIDEO_TS structure would work much better than ISO.

BDMV structure doesn't show the language tag either, so I'm guessing the only solution is remuxing the ISO/BDMV to mkv
