Force transcoding Swiftfin (tvOS) - havik - 2024-03-27 Hey all, I’ve been trying to force transcoding on Swiftfin and keep running into dead ends. I am setting this up for my parents who do not have an ideal internet connection for large video files, so I set their user internet streaming limit to 5mbps. I also went into their user account and set their internet quality to 6mbps (I believe). Feels like these settings are being ignored by Swiftfin. Every time I load up a video on Swiftfin (tvOS), it begins to stutter and the information bubble under the user indicates “Direct Play” still. I have confirmed Swiftfin’s force direct play option is off, as well I’m using Tailscale, no idea if this could be the culprit. Possibly it could be reading it as a LAN connection so it is not forcing those specified internet streaming… if that’s even how that aspect of it works. If so, any way to fix this issue/force transcoding? Any pointers or tips would be greatly appreciated! Apologies if there is weird formatting, I did this on mobile. RE: Force transcoding Swiftfin (tvOS) - Serge K - 2024-03-27 Did you change in Jellyfin client setting speed limit to 5 mbps? Which hardware you use on your jellyfin server? If by the client setting you mean the one located in dashboard > playback > streaming — yes, I changed that too. Unfortunately, no dice there. My hardware is: CPU: i5-8400 Memory: 16gb OS: OMV6 RE: Force transcoding Swiftfin (tvOS) - Serge K - 2024-03-27 "dashboard > playback > streaming" is setting on the server side. May be it also works I do not know never used before but I mean change speed setting on your jellyfin installed on TV (osTV as I understood) resolution of this video Swiftfin ??? As far as I know there is no setting within Swiftfin that forces a bitrate on the client… unless it’s buried somewhere. This is the AppleTV app. I also do not think there is quality adjustment on the video player itself, unfortunately. Was hoping the server-side settings would force it on this client. Resolution of the video is 1080p. It loads well some of the time, but there’s enough stutter and buffer pauses a decent chunk of the time that I just want to force transcoding. RE: Force transcoding Swiftfin (tvOS) - Serge K - 2024-03-27 see this https://www.reddit.com/r/jellyfin/comments/13kadc7/does_jellyfin_and_swiftfin_automatically/ as i understood Swiftfin can not change streaming speed and you can use Jellyfin instead of Swiftfin RE: Force transcoding Swiftfin (tvOS) - havik - 2024-03-27 (2024-03-27, 03:01 PM)Serge K Wrote: see this Rats… I do not think the standard Jellyfin app is on AppleTV. I can try airplay though and see if that works when I get home later to see if that functions as a bandaid. Genuinely love Swiftfin and its direct play support, just ironically I need it to transcode for this specific situation. Thanks for your help! |
