Hardware queries - jozhlogg - 2024-04-14 So, I'm looking at setting up a Jellyfin server soon using hardware from my old PC. That's currently a i3-9100f and an AMD RX580 8GB. I've seen that I can trade in both my CPU and GPU for an i5-9600k and was wondering which would be the better bet for jellyfin? Do I need more CPU power or is a dGPU worth having? My other thoughts also was that just the CPU would use less power than having the GPU installed. Any thoughts? RE: Hardware queries - gnattu - 2024-04-14 > AMD RX580 8GB Avoid this. AMD encoders this gen has very bad quality and you probably won't like it. > Do I need more CPU power or is a dGPU worth having? It depends. If you are doing HDR->SDR tone mapping a lot, then you may consider a dGPU as the iGPUs may have performance issues on 4K videos. If you don't, get a modern CPU with iGPU will be good enough. RE: Hardware queries - jozhlogg - 2024-04-14 Great, thanks. Looks like it's time to retire the 580 now! |
