How to play HEVC on Apple devices without transcoding? - WesSouza - 2024-04-20
I have MP4 videos encoded in HEVC that play perfectly using macOS, QuickTime, and apps on Apple TV such as FileBrowser TV (which uses Apple TV's native playback).
Unfortunately Jellyfin insists the video needs transcoding, which is very slow on a 4K HEVC video with HDR.
Is there a way of forcing Jellyfin to send the raw video without transcoding? The only resources I found were to disable transcoding at the user level, but that only displays an error to my user.

This should be fixed in 10.9. The current 10.8 branch has a too strict requirements on playing HEVC videos.
