Internet Upload Requirements - ccronin - 2024-04-22 So I'm looking later in the year to host a jellyfin instance for some friends who don't live in the same house as me. My city kinda has shit internet where most places only have 50MBs upload. So I'm considering co-location because I want to be able to host 4-6 4K streams. For hardware I'm looking at getting the minis-forum MS-01 with an intell processor for quick sync for transcoding. I'm hoping to use this to learn K8s so there should be plenty of hardware to transcode everything. What i'm not sure on is how fast of internet I'll need. The rack comes with 100MBs and is $100CAD/month/100MBs Any thoughts on what I should be looking at for speed? RE: Internet Upload Requirements - gnattu - 2024-04-22 > I want to be able to host 4-6 4K streams This is a rather expensive option if you want to maintain high-quality 4K stream. For 4K videos, my personal preference would be 20-30 Mbps per stream, which means you would need to have 80-180 Mbps upload, depending on your final use case. 100Mbps upload is a good starting point as I highly doubt if you really need 6 concurrent 4K streams. |
