Xbox series X -unable to connect to the selected server - mosenan1977 - 2024-04-28

Hi all,

Ive been using jellyfin for over a year now on my Xbox series X and today (28/04/2024) i needed to reinstall jellyfin and since doing this, I cannot connect to the server. I constantly keep getting the same error message. "We're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again"

I know the server works perfectly fine because it works my android phone and on my partners iPhone. I have attached a screenshot of the error message. As mentioned it was working until this morning, it was only when reinstalled it, it decided not to connect. My Xbox is connected to the internet and everything is the same as far as I can see, nothing else has changed. It's got me stumped.  

Please can you advise or suggest where I might be going wrong. Thanks in advance

I don't have any answers for you but I do have a couple questions. What version of the server are you running and on your Xbox are you using the JF Xbox app or through a web browser or another method?

can you connect via the browser of the xbox?
is it a local connection or via domain/ip?

Hey Folks, same issue on my Xbox Series X but it's working fine on my Xbox one S (I can even direct stream 4k content, it wasn't possible with previous version). I'm using Domain name to connect but tried also IP with the Series X : still not working.

Im still confused, are you using the Xbox app or a web browser on the Xbox itself?

In my case it's the app. It was working last week.

I’m using the app too.

Web browser as the same limitations that the older version off the app : 1080p and 12,5Mbps maximum.

OK follow-up questions.

What version is your server running, The last release 10.8.13 or earlier?

Is there a more recent version/update of the app?

I've tried testing the app and it sees my server fine (10.8.13) but crashes when trying to play anything.

I've just been doing a bit of testing and have the Xbox app working, though it's been a bit janky. Sometimes it will back out or go up a level, it doesn't seem to like the letter select on the right side of the screen and I can't get the cursor to go away when a video is playing, but It's now played (at least for a few minutes) a full Blu-ray movie, a short video, a TV episode and some music. So that's good.

My server is 10.8.13 and it runs on a Windows 10 PC. My Xbox is a One S and I'm on a local network using the actual web address for my server.
