HVEC Intel Arc A380 Decoding Issues - MaxofGreatness - 2024-05-03
Hey all. I got an Intel Arc A380 Low Profile for my Jellyfin server. Been having issues with it for the last two days. I am unable to play back HVEC movies and I couldnt figure out what was going on. I thought it was the files, but after two days, I discovered that while the intel cpu I was using before worked fine with HVEC, the Arc A380 is having issues. Been trying to figure out how to fix it. I installed all drivers for the graphics card, reinstalled Jellyfin, rebooted the PC, and just about everything under the sun for an fyi. It always gives the same error message: "Playback Error. This client isn't compatible with the media and the server isn't sending a compatible media format."
The main reason I got the Arc was to have it decode HDR 4k media better than 30fps, but I can't figure out what is wrong for the life of me. It should be able to do most modern codecs (including AV1 which is why I am very happy about it), so I don't get why I am running into issues. The only solutions I could find were for Linux, which doesn't help me that much bc I am on Windows (literally just running it on the desktop for cloud backup reasons). Any help would be appreciated in any form. Thx.

Well in the first log, the A380 isn't doing anything. There's no QSV going down, so it's not doing what you think it is.
In the second log, that's a clear sign that hardware acceleration isn't set up correctly or at least isn't using the correct device. You will want to follow the instructions (and read the known issues -- this may be your problem) on the HWA page: https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/administration/hardware-acceleration/intel#windows-setups
Make sure your driver is compatible (not sure if that section is up to date, but it's worth a try) and that you've followed all the steps, enabled QSV correctly in the dashboard, and that you're pointing Jellyfin at the correct device to get the job done.

I think FFmpeg on Windows no longer supports pre-6th Gen Intel iGPU.
Therefore, the iGPU of the i7-4790 may conflict with the Arc A380. Please disable the iGPU and wipe its driver and try again.

That was the issue. I just went into the device manager, went to displays, and then removed the IGPU. I then restarted my computer, and it works perfectly now. Thx.

That may not be a permanent solution. You will likely need to disable it in the BIOS.
