Tailscale & Jellyfin - davidweaver1836 - 2024-05-04

hello all this is my first post, here is some background for the issue I'm having.

I have a Jellyfin & Open Media Vault VM on Proxmox running Tailscale on both.

My Home Gaming pc can access Jellyfin and plays fine
(Both are running server not the client app, i also had to make a network share to my media on both pcs and set a link to a local folder to give jellyfin access)
My laptop can access jellyfin outside my home through TS and plays just fine.

Laptop: C:\NAS ==> point to my media share. i then tell jellyfin to look in C:\NAS for media

i also oddly had to setup my jellyfin logins respectively to match my windows logins before i got everything working

Both setups use http://localhost:8096/ instead of the TS IP but I'm assuming that's from the server app being installed and TS handles routing

My phone (Galaxy S23) has TS installed can see that my jellyfin server is also connected but when i give it the TS IP and jellyfin  port (in chrome or the app)it will let me login but not with my username and password i use on my laptop. and it shows a folder with path "/var"

Any additional info needed id be happy to provide, i appreciate your help guys and gals

But andriod doesn't seem to have a server app only client.

If im missing something and the client app can be easily setup through tail scale im all for learning

AFAIK "localhost" won't traverse a VPN.

Also, why do you have multiple servers?

Am not sure if this helps but I use Tailscale & have my server running on MacOs. In order for me to access my server remotely I had to add "100.64.0.0/10" to "remote IP address filter" & set the filter mode to "whitelist" under "Remote Access Settings" in the Networking preferences for Jellyfin Server. This allows you to connect through your Tailnet
